Self-guided trips

Self-guided trips are designed for independent hikers who prefer flexibility and autonomy, while still benefiting from local knowledge and professional planning. These journeys allow you to explore Azerbaijan’s mountain regions at your own pace, with support tailored to your needs.

Self-guided itineraries can also be combined with guided sections, such as summit attempts, technical passages, or specific days where local guidance is required.

What we mean by “Self-Guiding”?

A self-guided trip does not mean unsupported. It means that you choose how much involvement you need from us, while maintaining independence on the trail.

Depending on the route, experience level, and objectives, a trip may be:

  • Fully self-guided
  • Mostly self-guided with guided sections
  • Self-guided with full logistical support

Levels of Involvement

Our support for self-guided trips can range from planning only to complete logistical coordination.

1. Route Planning & Recommendations

  • Itinerary design based on your experience and interests
  • Route recommendations and daily stages
  • Online maps and navigation materials
  • Local context and practical advice

2. Planning + Local Coordination

  • Accommodation recommendations or arrangements
  • Local transport and transfer planning
  • Contact coordination where relevant
  • Seasonal and regional considerations

3. Full Logistical Support

  • Accommodation bookings (guesthouses, hotels, camps)
  • Transfers and transport coordination
  • Permit or access arrangements where required
  • On-ground coordination for a smooth journey

Guided days or summit sections can be added when appropriate.

Mixing Self-Guided & Guided Travel

Some itineraries benefit from a hybrid approach. For example:

  • Self-guided trekking between villages, combined with a guided summit climb
  • Independent hiking days followed by guided high-altitude or technical sections
  • Self-guided travel with local guides on specific days or locations

This approach offers flexibility while maintaining safety and access where needed.

Who Self-Guided Trips Are For

Self-guided trips are best suited for:

  • Experienced hikers comfortable navigating independently
  • Travelers seeking flexibility in pace and schedule
  • Small groups or individuals preferring autonomy
  • Those who value local knowledge without full-time guiding

We assess feasibility case by case to ensure routes and conditions are appropriate.

Important Information

All self-guided trips are offered on an inquiry basis. Routes, support level, and logistics are confirmed after reviewing your experience, timing, and current conditions. We do not provide technical instruction or replace personal responsibility in mountain environments.
